How MEPCO Bill is Calculated – Units, Slabs and Formula
How is MEPCO Electricity Bill Calculated?
Your MEPCO electricity bill involves multiple components: energy charges, fixed charges, taxes, and adjustments. Here is the complete step-by-step calculation.
Step 1: Determine Units Consumed
Units = Present Meter Reading − Previous Meter Reading
Example: 21,940 − 21,655 = 285 units
Step 2: Identify Your Tariff Slab
- 1–200 units → Protected rates (Rs. 3.95–10.06/unit)
- 201–300 units → Rs. 17.40/unit (Non-Protected)
- 301–400 units → Rs. 20.46/unit
- 401–500 units → Rs. 22.65/unit
- 501–700 units → Rs. 25.09–27.54/unit
- 701+ units → Rs. 30.00/unit
Step 3: Calculate Energy Charges
Energy Charges = Units × Slab Rate
Step 4: Add Fixed Charges
Rs. 75–150 per month depending on your consumption slab.
Step 5: Add FPA (Fuel Price Adjustment)
FPA = Units × Monthly FPA Rate
Step 6: Add FC Surcharge
A per-unit financing cost surcharge added to cover power sector costs.
Step 7: Calculate Sub-Total
Sub-Total = Energy + Fixed + FPA + FC Surcharge
Step 8: Add Government Taxes
- GST 18% on sub-total
- Electricity Duty 1.5% on energy charges
- TV Fee: Rs. 35 fixed
- Income Tax 7.5% for non-filers on bills above Rs. 25,000
Step 9: Final Bill
Total = Sub-Total + GST + ED + TV Fee + Income Tax
Step 10: Late Payment Surcharge
~4% added if paid after due date.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Does the slab rate apply to all units or just extra units?
A: The slab rate applies to ALL units consumed that month — not just units above the threshold.
Q: Why is my bill different from the calculator estimate?
A: The actual bill may differ due to quarterly tariff adjustments (QTR), arrears, or different FPA for your billing month.
