How is MEPCO Bill Calculated?
Your MEPCO electricity bill is calculated based on the number of units (kWh) you consume each month. MEPCO uses a slab-based tariff system approved by NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority). The more units you use, the higher the rate per unit.
Protected vs Non-Protected Consumers
MEPCO consumers are divided into two categories:
- Protected Consumers — those who use 200 units or less per month. They get subsidized lower tariff rates.
- Non-Protected Consumers — those who use more than 200 units. They pay higher rates on all units consumed.
What is FPA in MEPCO Bill?
FPA stands for Fuel Price Adjustment. It is a variable charge added to your bill based on the cost of fuel used to generate electricity. FPA changes every month and is determined by CPPA-G (Central Power Purchasing Agency).
How to Reduce Your MEPCO Bill
- Keep monthly units below 200 to stay in Protected Consumer category
- Avoid heavy appliances (AC, iron, washing machine) during peak hours (6 PM – 10 PM)
- Use energy-efficient LED bulbs instead of regular bulbs
- Keep AC thermostat at 26°C or higher
- Consider solar net metering for long-term savings
